Mentoring
Mentoring with young people works by building a consistent, trusting relationship where they feel listened to, valued, and supported. A mentor acts as a positive role model, providing guidance, encouragement, and a safe space to talk through challenges, explore goals, and develop new skills. Through regular sessions, young people gain confidence, improve their self-esteem, and build resilience in managing life’s ups and downs. Mentoring also helps them to develop stronger communication and social skills, make healthier choices, and feel more motivated in possibility of education or personal development. Over time, these positive outcomes can lead to greater independence, stronger aspirations for the future, and an increased sense of belonging and well-being.

Enabling
Offering enabling sessions to young people is a vital way to support their mental health and overall well-being, helping them to access opportunities and experiences that they may not be able to engage in without guidance. These sessions can take many forms, such as making use of community spaces to build confidence and connection, enjoying animal walks and explorations to reduce stress and encourage mindfulness, or engaging in card games and board games to promote social interaction and problem-solving. Incorporating a young person’s special interests allows the support to feel personal and motivating, while activities such as travel training and the development of life skills provide them with greater independence and resilience. Together, these approaches create a safe, supportive environment where young people can thrive and build the tools they need for everyday life.

Advocacy
Advocacy sessions for a young person are important because they empower them to have a say in decisions that affect their lives, ensuring their needs and views are at the center of any planning or support. Through these sessions, young people can develop confidence, self-awareness, and communication skills, which help them to speak up more effectively in the future. Advocacy also promotes fairness by making sure their rights are upheld and their best interests are considered, particularly in settings like education, health, or social care. The outcomes of advocacy can include increased self-esteem, stronger independence, better access to opportunities and services, and a greater sense of control over their own lives—all of which contribute positively to their mental health, well-being, and long-term development.
